Researchers from the Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia and the Human Health Foundation in Spoleto, Italy have found that MECP2, a gene that modifies the chromatin in the cell, has important role in stem cell aging.

Changes in tumor suppressor gene suggest a heritable susceptibility to retinoblastoma

Researchers working at the Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and at the University of Siena in Siena, Italy, have found that the downregulation, or reduction, of the tumor suppressor gene 16INK4A may be a novel marker of the heritable susceptibility for the disease.  The study  appears in the  Journal of Cellular Physiology.

Research by Umberto Galderisi and Antonio Giordano on the effect of stem cells in the treatment of arterial stenosis will be published as part of the proceedings of the prestigious 5th International Conference on Mesenchymal and Non-Hematopoietic Stem Cells (MSCs) at Texas A & M Health Science Center College of Medicine.

 

Antonio Giordano Receives Dean's Distinguished Award for Excellence in Research

Antonio Giordano, the President of the Sbarro Health Research Organization, Inc., the Director of the Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine and Center for Biotechnology has won the Dean's Distinguished Award for Excellence in Research.

The award cites the quality of his work, "attested to by the fact that it provides an impetus for other investigators studying cancer growth control and it has resulted in a framework for our conceptualization of cancer development and mechanisms of tumor suppression."

 

Ang Sun, Ph.D. Wins Prize for 'Outstanding Research'

Dr. Ang Sun, who studied for six years for his Ph.D. under the guidance of Antonio Giordano, M.D., Ph.D., the Founder and President of the Sbarro Health Research Organization, has been awarded the 2009 Award for Outstanding Research by a Graduate Student from the College of Science and Technology at Temple University.

Sbarro Health Research Organization Welcomes New Biotech Research Center

The Sbarro Health Research Organization, a nonprofit research facility located at Temple University, dedicated a new state-of-the-art biotechnology research center on October 27th. SHRO has been ranked as one of the top three international laboratories based on number of publications as ranked by the Cell Cycle Registry.
