An Unforgettable Meeting: Professor Antonio Giordano Meets the President of the Italian Republic

Rome, June 2025 — A remarkable day for science and civic commitment. Professor Antonio Giordano, President of the Sbarro Health Research Organization (SHRO) and Board Member of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), had the distinct honor of meeting with President Sergio Mattarella, Head of State of the Italian Republic.

The meeting represented a symbolic and substantial moment of recognition for the work carried out by SHRO — an international nonprofit institution dedicated to cancer research and public health and for the contributions of the Italian American community in fostering scientific collaboration between Italy and the United States.

During the encounter, Professor Giordano presented the core missions of SHRO and its achievements in translational medicine, environmental health, and education, emphasizing the shared values that guide the organization’s efforts on both sides of the Atlantic.

“President Mattarella is a true bridge-builder — between people, between nations,” said Professor Giordano.
“His moral integrity, deep respect for the institutions, and tireless dedication to defending the values of the Italian Constitution make him an extraordinary role model. His leadership inspires me every day to serve the public good, to strengthen the bonds within our communities, and to pursue scientific excellence with responsibility and purpose.”

The conversation also acknowledged the critical role of the Italian diaspora, particularly the Italian American community, in promoting cultural, academic, and scientific exchange, and in supporting SHRO’s ongoing research programs in Italy and the United States.

“As President of SHRO and a member of NIAF’s Board, I had the privilege of sharing with President Mattarella the vision and impact of our work. It was an unforgettable moment that further motivates our commitment to public health and international cooperation,” Giordano added.

The SHRO team extends its deepest gratitude to President Sergio Mattarella for his time, attention, and encouragement, and reaffirms its determination to continue working with integrity and passion in service of Italy and the global scientific community.
